Suicide Century #14. June 9 2012

A challenging 1 day bike ride.

This plain web page is for posting info for the upcoming Suicide Century #14.
Wanna ride it? Send an email

Or just go ride it.
It starts on St Feriole Island, and from there it'll be a well marked course for most
of the summer. We're using RouteArrows® brand road stickers. They're biodegradeable,
easily seen (for several weeks) and awfully dang hard for malfeasants to move,
remove, alter, or steal. No more wrong turns in Steuben.

Official course is still under development as township road condition and construction reports are still trickling in.

This is not a race.

This is not a fund-raiser.

This is not for profit.

This is just a bunch of people out for a challenging bike ride in a very scenic part of southwest Wisconsin.

We don't need no stinking support.
We're cyclists.
We're gonna ride, follow a strategically laid out course,
find plenty of food and drink along the way, (lots of C-stores
and maybe a safe-house or two), and in the unlikely event of
of a major mechanical or emotional catastrophe,
Mom will come pick up the pieces sometime around sunset.
(If she likes you as much as she likes me, that is.)

Tentative Route #14. June 9 2012

The 14th Ride.
Only 104 miles.
Cause it's steep. And early in the season.

Bike friendly C-stores:
#1 Bridgeport, mile 14
#2 Bagley, mile 28
#3 Bridgeport (again), mile 38
#4 Boscobel, mile 60
#5 Steuben (taverns only), mile 70
#6 Wauzeka, mile 79
#7 Eastman, (taverns only), mile 91
#8 Pat Anderson's house in Prairie du Chien, mile 106. Just 2 miles past official finish line.

Logistics

Who?
A healthy group of cycling enthusiasts...

What?
ready to take on a leisurely 100-ish mile ride through a very scenic (hilly) tour through southwest Wisconsin.

When?
June 9th, 2012 starting promptly at 8:00 am. Late comers should plan to ride fast.

Where?
Prairie du Chien, WI. Start and Finish at Lawler Park, on the Mississippi riverfront on St Feriole Island.

Why?
Why not?

How?
The course is a convenience store hopping route, with no more than 22 miles between
places to re-fuel and/or rest. Prolonged resters will likely be ridiculed (but politely) by the purveyors.
And we'll carry all the tubes we need. There's still an official liability waiver.
And we're serious about that part.

It's available here.

Special for 2012:
Finish line party at Cajun Fest, on St Feriole Island in Prairie du Chien.
Good eats.
Beer tent.

FAQ:
1. Why so early this year???
Answer: Due to abnormal weather conditions, July is predicted to be exceptionally
hot this year. Mom says no long bike rides when its hot out.
June 9 is going to be mostly sunny and 73 degrees, with a light tailwind all day.

2. Is there still time to get ready for a hilly 100 mile ride?
Answer: Yes. Ride 100 miles tomorrow, ice whatever hurts, rest up for June 9.

Snazzy catchphrase here.
It's gonna be hilly.
There's gonna be nice weather.
Let's keep this thing rolling.

Happy cycling.
