Almost- official course map is posted.

New for 2009: We're on Active.com. So if you'd like to pay an extra $1.25 + 6.75% of the nominal registration fee, feel free to follow
this link.
I'd prefer that people use the old-fashioned method above; active.com is doing just fine thank you very much. No need to skim 3 bucks off the top for all the people just looking to climb some hills and want some food and drink along the way. And a hearty dose of decent food at the end. And some ride support like tools, first aid kits, supplies, sag service, etc.

This is not a race.

This is not a fund-raiser.

This is not for profit.

This is just a bunch of people out for a challenging bike ride in a very scenic part of southwest Wisconsin. The course has not yet been stamped as 'official' but some preliminary road tests have begun for 2009.

Logistics

Who?
A healthy group of cycling enthusiasts...

What?
ready to take on a leisurely 126 mile ride (with supported shortcuts making it as little as 67 miles) through a very scenic (hilly) tour through southwest Wisconsin.

When?
July 18th, 2009 starting promptly at 8:00 am. Late comers risk not getting food along the way.

Where?
Prairie du Chien, WI. Start and Finish at Lawler Park, on the Mississippi riverfront on St Feriole Island.

Why?
Why not?

How?
There are 4 fully-staffed rest stops, roughly every 22 miles. The shorter distance options also visit all the rest stops.

How much?
We can put this whole thing together for a cool $30, or discounted to $25 if you want to pass on the custom-made fancy t-shirt. Fully supported ride, sag service, self-proclaimed expert bike mechanics (and maybe even a professional), lawyers on site to help get an early jump on litigation, and a spaghetti feast at the end of the ride. Hard to beat.

How many?
We should be breaking our previous record of 25 riders. We're ready for up to 100. Sign up! Bring a friend.

Previous propaganda:

Starting and ending in historic, scenic and hilly Prairie du Chien WI.

What is in store for the 11th annual ride? Well let's see here...
* Fully staffed rest stops. No longer do speedsters need to worry about getting through in front of the sag wagon.
* Great weather-- forecast not yet available but you can just tell when its going to be nice.
* The route is tentatively set, and we're heading to Boydtown! Alas, scenic Boydtown Hollow is just not well suited to road bikes, but we can get to town on the nicely paved Pleasant Ridge road.

This is a fully supported ride-- rest/ food/ water/ sports drink stops are every 17 - 26 miles. Sag wagons, mechanical
support, and perhaps even some emotional encouragement are all supplied. 126 scenic miles through small town
Wisconsin and beautiful river valleys. Some shorter distance options available as
well, starting at about 67 miles and up from there. Spaghetti dinner waiting at the finish line.

Lodging: You can get info from http://www.prairieduchien.org/visitors/lodging.htm and see what's around.
There are camping options nearby. Contact us at the registration link above for specific suggestions.
Note: this ride is not well-suited for the weak of heart (or butt).

The route, pavement check pending... Start from Prairie du Chien, a quick loop on St Feriole Island, out of town on Frenchtown Rd (Cty K or Main St) then we start the day for real: up Limery, down and up Gran Grae, then Bouska to the highway and to Wyalusing State Park. Rest stop 1 is there (mile 26), and we'll have 3 good early morning climbs under our belts by then. After leaving the park, its right back down Cty C heading east, over the other hill on Cty C, past Woodman (rest stop 2 at mile 46), and onto Hwy 133. Then an SC oddity: a long, flat, straight stretch. Heading ENE to Blue River and likely to have a tailwind, this 20 mile segment will be pretty fast. Then we head back across the river on some county roads until we get to Smiling Goat Drive. Haven't been there before but its gotta be a good climb. Rest stop 3 in Excelsior, mile 72. Then a hilly route back into Crawford county, a jaunt down the hill to Boydtown; over the hill to Steuben (rest stop 4 at mile 102), up to Eastman and then down to PdC. Day. Spaghetti.

Happy cycling.
